Liverpool’s Ken Skupski has said he is delighted to be in the world’s top 50 doubles players as he looks to continue his form into the grass court season.

Skupski, who is ranked 49 as an individual, and his partner Scotland’s Colin Fleming are currently ranked 37th in the world as a team.

“We’ve worked hard over the past few months to get the ranking up,” Skupski told BBC Radio Merseyside.

“Everything is based on ranking, so we’re going in the right direction.”

He added: “Hopefully, we can move forward. Colin is still not inside the top 50 but we’re working hard to get him there.”

Both players now look forward to their final warm-up competition ahead of Wimbledon and Skupski admits they are both prepared for the big matches this summer.

“We’ve just finished with the Aegon Championships and we’re heading to Eastbourne to play in the Aegon International and that’s the tournament prior to Wimbledon,” he said.

“We feel we have got a good chance next week. I’m not sure whether we’ll be seeded but we will be one of the top ranked teams there.

“Then Wimbledon is just around the corner and we’re very excited. We’ve got great tennis to play and hopefully if we do well, we’ll get a selection for the Davis Cup which is back in Eastbourne the week after Wimbledon.”

After cruising through their first round match, Flemksi faced Daniel Nestor / Nenad Zimonjic the current world number 1′s and French open champions.

The Serbian / Canadian pairing got off to a fantastic start, breaking early and holding serve throughout to clinch the first set.

The second set went with serve until the eighth game when Flemski got the vital break and they followed up by serving out to the level the match.

Nestor /Zimonjic got the early mini break in the Match tie break and held on to close out the match. Ken and Colin will take many positives from pushing the world number 1′s so close and will now turn their attentions to Eastbourne.

Ken and Colin quickly put the clay court season behind them by winning the Aegon Trophy on Nottingham’s lush grass courts. In the final they defeated Scott Lipsky / Eric Butorac 6-4 7-6. It was the first time that the lads had got the better of Burorac.

Ken is now ranked 49 in the world in doubles and as a team with Colin are ranked no. 37.
